February 07, 2023 Image Linda Christensen ‘72 has recently been inducted into the Minnesota State Fair Hall of Fame. She was recognized at the 164th Annual Meeting of the Society last month. Christensen, who had retired in 2021, was the butter sculptor at the fair for 50 years. At the fair, dairy princesses from throughout the state compete to be crowned 'Princess Kay of the Milky Way', with Linda sculpting the likenesses of the winning princess and the nine finalists in butter and putting them on display throughout the fair. In addition to the Hall of Fame induction, she has also been the Superintendent of Farm Crops at the Minnesota State Fair for the past 22 years. Outside of the fair, Christensen was juggling more than one effort at a time. Over the years, she has been an art teacher; calligrapher; and designed and marketed her own line of greeting cards, among other things. Despite all this, she still maintains that her proudest achievement was carving 41,500 pounds of butter into likenesses of over 550 young women.
