Cipolle On August 30, Confluence: An East Lake Studio for Community Design, set out with pads, fliers, and markers to invite locals to imagine and draw their hopes and designs for the now barren 3rd Precinct. The studio was co-founded by MCAD adjunct faculty member Sam Gould and Duaba Unenra. This building housed the precinct where Derek Chauvin, the officer who murdered George Floyd, worked, and it has remained abandoned since the protests that followed Floyd's murder in 2020.The group's goal is to transform this historically significant site into a space for creative community engagement, acknowledging the tragedy and its impact on the community. To achieve this, they gather input from Minneapolis’s 9th ward through activities like place-making sessions and social practice arts, prioritizing social engagement over the final outcome.Learn More:Confluence: An East Lake Studio for Community Design(confluence-studio.org)Community, culture and healing at 3rd Precinct: Coalition presses for cultural district(mprnews.org—October 29, 2024) Explore more about Sam Gould
