March 15, 2025 Image Edgar Arceneaux Edgar Arceneaux’s debuted his mirror painting series Skinning the Mirror at Dreamsong’s booth for the Frieze Art Fair. A product of Arceneaux’s residency funded by the Walker and supported in the basement of the MCAD MFA building, Skinning the Mirror is an exploration of subject matter and material. The creative process involves applying chemicals to the back of old mirrors, painting over the top of it, and applying that to a canvas, creating these shiny crackled warped reflected works. He told interviewer Russ White at Minneapolis Art, “I was interested in the material because it troubles the gaze. If you look at an artwork and then it's glaring back at you, it becomes kind of a reciprocal event. It becomes an active exchange.”Skinning the MirrorDreamsong Booth at Frieze LA (Santa Monica, CA)February 20–February 23, 2025Learn moreMaterial History: Dreamsong debuts Edgar Arceneaux's mirror works(mplsart.com—February 18, 2025)Frieze LA(dreamsong.art)
