July 15, 2022 Image John Gaunt Faculty member John Gaunt is featured in an exhibition at the Rosalux Gallery. In Deception Pass, Gaunt presents an exhibition of paintings and painterly structures that explore themes of environmental change and entropy through an abstract language derived in part from recent fieldwork in the Pacific Northwest and the Great Lakes. Empirical systems of weather, topography, and the rhythm of rivers and tides provide points of departure for his search for an autonomous painted presence. Through sustained improvisation, Gaunt creates hard-won forms that engage each other and the space of the gallery in an aesthetic dialogue that has sustained and challenged the artist for almost two decades.
