Eating healthy as a full-time college student is sometimes… a challenge. It feels like eating healthy is difficult, time-consuming, and expensive. MCAD is hoping to combat that feeling with free classes teaching students how to make quick, inexpensive, and healthy meals!

Recently, Student Affairs has been introducing new events and classes for students here on campus and one example of this is The Nutrition and Eating Healthy Class hosted by MCAD’s dietician, nutritionist, and renowned author, Ranelle Kirshner! Ranelle uses her schooling an experience to provide valuable information on food you eat, and then provides a guided course on healthy foods to eat for both a healthier body, and a healthier mind.

She then pulls out a hand-picked and designed recipe, provides the ingredients, and instructs us on how to make a dish right there in the classroom. She shows students how to properly use knives, clean vegetables, and properly cut and score correct ingredients. Don’t worry about having tons of cooking experience because everything is taught in class!

A lot of the fun in the class comes from being able to try new things and spending time learning and cooking with my friends. I have personally always loved cooking and being able to share that experience really shaped the fun together. In the class, we also try and make some classics healthy. For example, we tried recreating a pizza using beans, feta cheese, pita bread, and other interesting, healthy ingredients.

The best part about it all? The food is actually delicious! The classes resume this fall, so be sure to keep an eye on your emails and swing by for free nutrition and cooking classes!
