March 19, 2024 Image Pao Houa Her ’09 has recently published her first photobook. A book that's both chapter-less and caption-less, Her's first monograph is titled My grandfather turned into a tiger... and other illusions. The collection of photos ties together Her's common inspirations: apocryphal family lore, portraits of the artist's community and self, and re-imagining Minnesotan and Northern Californian landscapes as a stand-in for Laos. "The photographer gets to make the decisions," Her says regarding the new book. "What image the world gets to see, and what image it doesn’t get to see. That’s very far from truth. And my truth is very different from somebody else’s truth." The book is currently available to purchase from Aperture.
