After a twenty-year hiatus, Pamela Valfer ’94, performing under the alias Kitty Craft, made a highly anticipated return to the stage on November 20 at The Vermont Hollywood.

Kitty Craft first rose to prominence in the ‘90s with her cassette-only releases It’s Stupid (1994) and I Got Rulez (1997). Her sound evolved in the late ‘90s and early 2000s with albums like Beats and Breaks from the Flower Patch (1998) and Catskills (2000), which introduced more complex production while retaining the raw, crackling essence of her earlier work. Lyrics, often melancholy despite upbeat, dreamy synths, reflect Valfer’s introspective approach to songwriting.

“I think that the way that it was recorded has a very familiar, or, what’s the word I’m looking for, nostalgic [feel],” Valfer said in a recent interview. “It brings a warmth from the past, which I think people are craving.”

After stepping away from music in the early 2000s to focus on visual art and teaching, including at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, Valfer returned to music in 2020 with Lost Tapes, a collection of unreleased songs. Valfer plans to continue touring with Kitty Craft throughout 2024 and beyond.
