August 12, 2022 Image May Ling Kopecky May Ling Kopecky ’22, MFA was recently featured in the Star Tribune for her use of art to educate on rare pediatric-onset multiple sclerosis. When she was thirteen, Kopecky said that she felt an "electric sensation" down her spine that doctors were unable to explain, but after several weeks the buzz went away. Soon after, more and more symptoms began to show and eventually when she was fifteen doctors diagnosed her with rare pediatric-onset multiple sclerosis. Kopecky now uses her art to educate and talk about her struggles with this "invisible illness". "Art has always been something that has been very therapeutic – But also one of the things that I just most genuinely enjoy because it's another form of language as well. You know, especially with these MS symptoms ... sometimes it can be difficult to describe things with words." Kopecky said.
