September 06, 2024 Image Michael Kareken, Professor Emeritus at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, is set to exhibit Shifting Visions at Groveland Gallery. In this solo exhibition, Kareken explores reflections on windows, a concept inspired by his experiences during the pandemic. The exhibition features intricate compositions where inner and outer worlds merge, with reflections on windows serving as metaphors for blending multiple locations, times of day, and perspectives. Through fluid conte and gouache marks, Kareken's work blurs the lines between reality and perception, capturing the essence of memory and presence. Kareken’s extensive accolades include grants and awards from the Bush Foundation, Minnesota State Arts Board, and McKnight Foundation, among others. He also received the Louise Nevelson Award for Art in 1997 and a printmaking award from the National Academy of Design in 2000.
