February 14, 2023 The National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. has recently acquired a painting created by George Morrison ’43. The painting was made in 1961 and was achieved by Morrison applying thick oil paint directly on the canvas. Being a native Minnesota Ojibwe artist, Morrison tapped into indigenous forms of knowledge, like the Anishinaabe concept of the cosmos encompassing Earth's natural elements. Morrison's work was also recently featured on a collection of stamps issued by the United States Postal Service.
