Dreaming Our Futures: Ojibwe and Očhéthi Šakówiŋ Artists and Knowledge Keepers is currently exhibiting work from twenty-nine mid-century and contemporary Indigenous artists of the region, including Ojibwe artist Andrea Carlson ‘05, MFA, and internationally renowned Ojibwe artist George Morrison ‘43.

Morrison's abstract expressionist works, painted or sculptural, were often inspired by his connection to Gichigami (Lake Superior) and the horizon line. His vivid paintings portray motion in a static image, as the abstractions appear to glide across the canvas.

Beginning in the seventies, Morrison fostered an environment where Indigenous artists garnered recognition. Dreaming Our Futures illustrates the history of mid-century and contemporary Indigenous artists in the region as influenced by Morrison. The exhibition also marks the one-hundredth anniversary of American Indian citizenship in the United States.
