A commissioned painting by Jane Nicolo ’16 is featured at this year's Minnesota State Fair.

Nicolo is a fine artist based in St. Paul, Minnesota. Although she started off as a graphic designer, Nicolo shares, "Portraiture was the starting point for my fine art practice–which started with a pastel portrait of my daughter. It felt like a natural progression from the illustrative projects I’d been involved in as a designer."

Joey has been more than two years in the making. This painting marks the first time Nicolo paints a portrait using acrylic instead of pastels—her usual medium for portraits.

Update September 2, 2021: Nicolo's painting received fourth place in Oil/Acrylic/Mixed Media out of over 750 entries at this year's Minnesota State Fair.
