Pastore Shares Process of "Wabi-Sabi" Expressionism

Karess Pastore ’03 has recently talked to Sun News Austin on the process of making her artwork.

Working in Austin, Texas for several years, Pastore's works are part of the "wabi-sabi" process, where the exterior (wabi) is ornately decorated, and the interior (sabi) being intentionally underdeveloped.

"I leave the back of each sculptural object (except for my stone sculptures) messy and unfinished," Karess told Sun News, "since the beauty is in the front and not in the back."
