A decade of research by the Historical and Cultural Society of Clay County has resulted in the release of Prairie Daughters: The Art and Lives of Annie Stein and Orabel Thortvedt. This book celebrates the contributions of two pioneering female artists from the northern plains, released after ten years of meticulous work.

Prairie Daughters explores the lives of Annie Stein, a self-taught artist from Georgetown, Minnesota, known for her folk art-inspired paintings, and Orabel Thortvedt, who received formal training at the Minneapolis School of Art, now the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. Thortvedt, also an accomplished historian, documented her region’s history with great detail.
