April 21, 2025 Image MCAD alum Karl Zinsmaster ’09, has been making big waves in Wisconsin with his woodworking school, Saint Maud. Starting in 2023, Zinsmaster bought the abandoned Former Saint Anthony’s church, hoping to trandform it into a space for community. Ever since, he’s been running the school based on the Sloyd Model, intended to instill confidence through handiwork and craftsmanship. Saint Maud has received a variety of grants, including from the American Scandinavian Foundation, as well as donations from the Hurley Lions Clubs, and individuals. Future plans for the projects include adding textiles and fiber arts, and creating a financial aid scholarship fund. As stated by Zinsmaster, “We also offer classes and one-on-one assisted builds by appointment. We work exceptionally hard to keep all of these services available to our community for as little money as possible.”Learn moreRural Woodworking School Teaches Carving and Life Skills(secondwavemedia.com—March 26, 2025)
