March 02, 2025 Image Robert Barber ’48, who passed at age 101 in 2023, had an exhibit titled Small Paintings on view at the Kerry Schuss Gallery in New York City. The collection is made of 12 small oil paintings using vivid colors, abstracted shapes, and repetition to evoke images of the artist's life in Arizona. Barber's curiosity and fascination with the world around him translated directly into his playful and abstract work, though he began experimenting with realistic depictions and still life later in his artistic journey. In an interview with Jocko Weyland, Baber stated, “I don't have a philosophy about art. I see a shape of something that interests me, and I want to, I need to draw it. Doesn't matter if it's a car part, a hat, or a banana. And to put these disparate parts into a painting so that they work together, for me that's the greatest satisfaction. Really it comes down to, and how you can describe my work in three words is, shapes and colors.”Small PaintingsKerry Schuss (New York City, NY)January 18–February 15, 2025Learn moreSmall Paintings(kerryschussgallery.com)
