August 04, 2024 Image FilmNorth has announced the recipients of the prestigious 2024 McKnight Fellowships for Media Artists, including Steve Rowell, an instructor and Post-Graduate Research Fellow at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. Chosen from a competitive pool of seventy applicants by a national panel of media artists and curators, the fellows represent diverse backgrounds and artistic disciplines. Rowell, an experimental documentary filmmaker based in Minneapolis, explores themes such as technology's impact on landscapes, environmental justice, power structures, and biodiversity. With an MFA from the University of Oxford and a BA in Studio Art from the University of Texas at Austin, Rowell has garnered recognition through grants, fellowships, and residencies from institutions like the MacDowell Colony and the Graham Foundation. Each fellowship, supported by a $25,000 grant from The McKnight Foundation, provides recipients with a year-long opportunity for study, experimentation, and development under FilmNorth's guidance.
