December 02, 2024 Image The Minnesota Timberwolves recently hosted their annual Native American Heritage Night, which included a special tribute to the Prairie Island Indian Community and a spotlight on Mdewakanton Dakota artist Cole Redhorse Taylor ’17. Redhorse Taylor designed a limited-edition shirt as part of the Timberwolves’ Artist Series, merging traditional Dakota symbols with modern aesthetics. Eleven stars represent Minnesota’s federally recognized tribes, symbolizing unity, resilience, and the continued presence of Indigenous communities. The design also incorporates Dakota floral patterns and language, emphasizing the deep connection to the land and culture.As a member of the Prairie Island Indian Community, Redhorse Taylor grew up immersed in his people's customs and crafts, learning beadwork and regalia-making from his family.
