Steve Bateman ’99 was recently interviewed by a media outlet regarding his sculpture work.

In an interview with the Good Info News Wire republished in Wisconsin-centric media outlet Up North News, Bateman goes over his repertoire of sculptures created out of recycled objects. Particular focus is given to a swan sculpture, now perched on the roof of Eau Claire's Banbury Place, that he made out of trashed items like toilet seats, chunks of foam, and part of a stop sign. With sculptures like these, Bateman wants to give audiences new ways on seeing things in a new perspective.

"I want them to get their own experience with it. You're looking at it and you're like 'Oh wow, that’s cool and really big' and you get closer and you're like 'Is that a toilet seat on there?'" Bateman says. "I want people to connect with it on an emotional level. I like people to be inspired by it. Maybe it brings some questions, too, and provokes a thought they never had before."
