May 22, 2024 Image The Minneapolis College of Art and Design has welcomed five new candidates to serve on the Board of Trustees. Kristine Anderson she/her A native of Arizona and California, for Kristine, architecture is storytelling. After graduating from high school, she returned to the Midwest to attend the University of Minnesota, where she received her B.A. and a Master of Architecture. Kristine has received numerous awards for her designs and her projects have been showcased on the AIA MN Homes by Architects Tour and in local, regional and national publications. Kristine joined PKA in 2009 and was named a partner in 2014 and managing principal in 2020. She also served as an adjunct faculty member in the School of Architecture within the College of Design at the University of Minnesota for more than a decade. She continues to be engaged in the College’s Mentor program, inspiring students and instilling confidence, autonomy and other vital skills. She also provides portfolio reviews and serves as a guest speaker and guest crit for studios, encouraging each student to develop their design thinking with thoughtful examination of the work to discover the essential purity of the design. When Kristine’s not working, she enjoys a vast array of creative pursuits including watercolor and oil painting, photography, sketching and cooking. She also loves spending time with her husband Tom and their two Corgis, in and around the cabin they designed and built near Knife River in northern Minnesota. LinkedIn Jean Freeman she/her As Principal + CEO of Zambezi, Jean is leading a highly awarded independent advertising agency that is proudly women-owned. Jean has successfully grown Zambezi from a startup to what it is today – a thriving agency named Small Agency of the Year by AdAge and a six time Inc. 5000 honoree. Zambezi clients include TaylorMade, UKG, Google and Under Armour. Jean has been named NAWBO (National Association of Women Business Owners) Business Owner of the Year. Additionally, Jean has also been included in Adweek’s Women Trailblazers, Campaign US’s 40 over 40, as well as a “Working Mother of the Year” by She Runs It. LinkedIn James Winland “Win” Hornig he/him Raised in Wayzata, MN, Win Hornig moved to New York after graduating from Carleton College in 2005. During his decade-long stay, he focused on commercial real estate and finance at financial institutions, including Bear Stearns and JP Morgan. Win furthered his education by earning an MBA from NYU Stern School of Business in 2015, which he pursued part-time while working for a private equity firm. In 2016, Win returned to Minnesota to launch RightMove Properties, a company specializing in the ownership and management of multifamily properties in Minneapolis. He is married to Jenny Hornig, a fellow entrepreneur who co-founded SheShe, a print and pattern studio with MCAD alumna Kate Warum (’11), and operates Jenny+Dirk, an interior design business. Together, they have a three-year-old daughter, Kit, who attends The French Academy, a French immersion school where she enjoys art, soccer, and a wide range of other activities. LinkedIn Greg McGee he/him I am a director of innovation at UnitedHealthcare. I have led innovation initiatives throughout my career with major brands including UnitedHealth Group, Harley Davidson, LifeTime Fitness, and more. Several years ago I founded (and recently sold) a start-up to disrupt the print-focused obituary space with a digital-first storytelling platform. I am on the Board of ArtStart, a. small arts education organization in St. Paul. Art has always been a big part of my life. My father went to the Cooper Union in the 1950s and family time was always filled with art. My undergraduate degree is a BFA in Art History. I am also a. practicing artist, completing one piece every single day. I am married to Annie McGee and we have two children - Louie (23) and Carmella (20). Louie is in his first year at the University of Illinois Chicago Law and Carmella is a Junior at St. Olaf College. I am on the board of my son’s non-profit that helps kids with blindness find adventure (Louie is blind). My wife and I host a Coffee in the Camper - in and around our vintage VW Bus every Saturday throughout the summer. LinkedIn Heather Mattera she/her Heather Mattera has spent much of her life helping people who have been marginalized feel more seen, heard, and understood in our society. In addition to having devoted herself to raising her two sons, she is a photographer who exhibited most recently in a two-person show — “The Weight of it All” — in Minneapolis in 2023, and at Open Walls at the Rencontres d’Arles photography festival in 2020. Through her photography, she works with NGOs and non-profits to help a variety of people — at-risk kids, unhoused teens, foster care families, women with eating disorders, families with terminally ill children, and more — create new narratives for themselves and ways they can fit into our world. She founded a scholarship program to help photographers around the world develop their art and have the opportunity to engage in a craft that is life-enriching and possibly even life-changing. Earlier in her career as a published, licensed independent therapist, she developed a PTSD treatment program for Desert Storm veterans and an art therapy group for Vietnam vets for the Veterans Administration, and worked on a locked inpatient psych unit for schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.
