MCAD National Portfolio Day

Have your portfolio reviewed by more than thirty colleges and universities from around the United States and Canada!

National Portfolio Days are free educational events for young artists held at host colleges throughout the United States and Canada. This is an opportunity to have college representatives review your artwork, offer critiques, and share information about their schools. These events are not an exam or a competition—representatives are interested in your progress and in providing helpful information about this next important step in your development as an artist. You are encouraged to meet with as many representatives as possible.

Should I attend?

If you are considering studying art or design at a college level, you should attend a National Portfolio Day to get a small taste of what it could be like to attend a professional art program. You'll see a variety of artwork created at different levels by other young artists with varying skills and experiences, and you may hear many different opinions about your work.

What should I bring?

Your portfolio can include finished pieces, works in progress, and sketchbooks. Please bring original artwork (rather than reproductions of other works) whenever possible. If your work is large, 3D, or otherwise hard to carry, you can bring photographs of the work instead. We suggest you do not spend time and money matting or framing your work—keep your presentation simple. If you want to showcase digital works, please bring your own laptop or tablet to view them on.

No admissions decisions or scholarships will be offered at National Portfolio Days. Some representatives may accept the portfolio you present as the visual portion of your application, but many may not. All expect that your artwork will progress in the months following the event.
