Art Educator Workshop: Soft Sculptures Alebrijes (in person)

Explore the fascinating history of Alebrijes, Mexican folk art sculptures of fantastical creatures, and discover the symbolic significance behind these whimsical beings.

Course description

Learn about the cultural and historical roots of Alebrijes in Mexican art and discover ways to incorporate narrative, use of color, and aesthetic vibrancy into classroom teaching. Gain skills in the basics of soft sculpture, including designing, pattern-making, cutting, stitching, and stuffing to create innovative and unconventional pieces. Explore embellishing techniques using fabric, thread and mixed media.

This workshop is perfect for educators seeking creative projects that blend cultural storytelling, textile arts, and three-dimensional design. No prior experience with sewing or sculpture is necessary—just bring your imagination! / This class has a one-hour lunch break each day. / Material fee of $12 is included in tuition. / We strongly encourage you to contact us and confirm your workshop has met minimum enrollment to run before making any travel arrangements.

Open to students ages 18 and above. View complete policies before completing your registration.

Art educators need to take their work with them on the last day of the workshop. Participants should consider bringing extra money if mailing work home will be necessary. Any work remaining after the workshop will be disposed of.

Supplies for the first class
Pen or pencil; notebook or sketchbook. The material fee for this class will cover the required supplies.

What to wear
Clothes appropriate for messy creativity.

Art Educator Workshops are not eligible for the early or multiple class registration discounts.
