Art in Flight! for ages 6-9 (in person)

Explore the world of winged creatures from birds to insects through drawing, painting, collage and sculpture. Open to ages 6-9.

Course description

Use a wide variety of tools, materials, and techniques, from using graphite to build on basic drawing skills to molding with clay to create three dimensional sculptures. During a mini field trip to the Minneapolis Institute of Art, generate ideas for paper collage birds and insect sculptures. Additionally, gain inspiration by looking at the work of artists like John James Audubon, Tracey English, and Christopher Marley. On Wednesday morning, Studio Kids is excited to partner with the University of Minnesota’s Raptor Center! Interpretive naturalists from the Raptor Center will be on campus to introduce students to one or two raptors to observe, learn, and draw. The week concludes with a showcase of artwork for friends and family to admire.

Open to students ages 6–9. Students must meet the age requirement by August 1, 2025. Please review our complete Summer Youth Camps Policies as well as our General Policies before completing your registration. Information about extended care options for ages 6-12 through Children's Theatre Company are included in the Summer Youth Camps Policies page.
