Beyond Painting: Examining Self (in person) | Minneapolis College of Art and Design

Beyond Painting: Examining Self (in person)

This introductory painting course emphasizes fundamental painting techniques and materials in conjunction with unique approaches to portraiture.

In this class traditional and nontraditional approaches and their historical meanings are examined and applied to two projects. One project is a collaborative community building activity with all students contributing a piece to a larger work that reflects the individual identities and perspectives represented in the class. Another project expands the idea of self-portraiture and how to communicate what self-portrait means using paint and canvas. Explore the idea of personal history and memory through readings, as well as looking at contemporary artists whose work functions in an autobiographical framework. / Materials fee of $6 included in course tuition.

Open to students ages 18 and above. Review complete policies, including class cancellation policies, before completing your registration.
