Color and Emotion: Colors and Aesthetic Awareness (online) | Minneapolis College of Art and Design

Color and Emotion: Colors and Aesthetic Awareness (online)

Emotion is a powerful tool when considering color. This course focuses on the emerging field of Colour Literacy and explores the connections between color, emotions, and memories.

Course description

In terms of colors and color palettes, emotion may be the most important factor in perception. An awareness of combinations of colors can elicit an aesthetic response which forms an emotional connection and memory of those colors. Given these factors, emotion is a strong motivator. Emotions impact a person’s memories, expectations, and assumptions about the environment which are often perceived through the senses, including vision (colors).

This course is centered in the emergent field of Colour Literacy. Examine color as an emotional experience in relation to how colors are perceived phenomenologically (relating to the sense of vision). Coursework includes a review of color terminology, identifying color palettes in the environment, and studying color as a spatial experience. / There will be no class on March 19 due to MCAD’s Spring Break.

Open to students ages 16 and above. Review complete policies, including class cancellation policies, before completing your registration.
