Digital Comic Art is a course exploring the skills and foundational knowledge to create fully digital comics. Ages 16+ Gain a working knowledge of crafting and producing comics using digital drawing programs, specifically Adobe Photoshop. Students learn digital skills and work on developing their creative voices. Weekly readings, technical demonstrations, and critiques of smaller assignments supplement the completion of a short-form comic over the five weeks. Topics covered include digital production, digital drawing techniques, effective stories, and character designs, color theory, and a study of modern cartoonists’ digital work and methods. / Students will have access to the Adobe Creative Suite throughout the course.Open to students ages 16 and above. This course includes an optional weekly meeting using Zoom on Wednesdays from 7:00–8:00 p.m. CST for discussions, feedback and opportunities for students to ask questions and share resources. The course is project-based, with 2 to 3 deadlines per week. Asynchronous course activities may include readings, video demonstrations and tutorials, online discussions, projects, and critiques.PrerequisitesPrevious drawing experience or experience in making comics is required. Previous experience with Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator is helpful, but not required.
