Drawing Fundamentals for ages 12-15 (Section 1) (in person)

Have fun while learning the challenging skill of drawing from observation. Open to ages 12-15.

Course description

In this class, short drawing exercises give students the confidence and ability to tackle more finished works of art. Lessons incorporate a variety of materials and genres such as still life, portraiture, and landscape. For inspiration, students view and discuss drawings by well-known artists through in-class discussions. / All sections are the same curriculum; choose the section that best fits your schedule. / This class meets Mondays and Wednesdays for a total of 5 sessions.

Open to students ages 12–15. Students must meet the age requirement by August 1, 2025. Please review our complete Teen Policies as well as our General Policies prior to completing your registration.

Required materials

Supplies for the first class

  • 18 x 24” drawing paper pad
  • 18 x 24” newsprint paper pad
  • four drawing pencils (HB, 6B, 2B, 2H)
  • two Bic ballpoint pens (blue and black)
  • small box of vine charcoal (soft, medium and hard)
  • three sticks dark compressed charcoal
  • kneaded eraser
  • Pink Pearl eraser
  • ruler
  • black felt tip pen/marker

Students should anticipate an additional cost of roughly $30–40 in total for materials (not included in tuition).

What to wear
Clothes appropriate for messy creativity.
