This introductory painting course emphasizes fundamental painting techniques and materials in conjunction with portraiture and self-representation. In this class traditional and nontraditional approaches and their historical meanings are examined and applied to two projects. One project is a collaborative community building activity with all students contributing a piece to a larger project. Another project expands the idea of self-portraiture and how to communicate what self-portrait means using paint and canvas. Explore the idea of personal history and memory through readings, as well as looking at contemporary artists whose work functions in an autobiographical framework. / Materials fee of $6 included in tuition.Open to students ages 18 and above.
