Introduction to Adobe After Effects (online)

The software allows artists to create amazing graphics, animated titles, and even 3D visual effects. Lessons include fundamentals of After Effects, graphic layers, animating simple objects and text, and some techniques that professional visual effects teams use to make amazing visuals for movies. Learn the essentials of the software regardless of previous experience. / Students will have access to Adobe Creative Cloud software throughout the course. / No class on November 28.

Open to students ages 18 and above. Review complete policies, including class cancellation policies, before completing your registration.

Class meeting details

This course will be synchronous, meaning students will meet weekly at the same time via Google Meet. Class meetings will include lecture, demonstrations, discussions, exercises, critiques, and time to ask questions and share resources. This class will meet for 90 minutes then have a break, followed by 90 minutes of work time and the instructor’s office hours. Office hours are an opportunity for students to ask questions and receive feedback and guidance.

Prerequisites

Previous experience with Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator are helpful, but not required.

Required materials

Supplies for the first class
Pen or pencil, notebook or sketchbook.

Software
Adobe Creative Cloud software (provided by MCAD).

Hardware
A computer capable of running Adobe Creative Cloud software, with internet access, and to capture and upload work.

Class resources
This class uses Adobe Creative Cloud and Canvas, MCAD’s learning management system. Please see the links for more information.
