Introduction to Adobe Illustrator (online)

Adobe Illustrator is one of the leading tools in logo creation, animation, and graphic design. Learn how to get started with Adobe Illustrator and work toward the creation of images and text with more sophisticated tools and techniques.

Learn how to make images and logos using the pen tools, complex shapes, advanced patterns and personalize text. Explore the differences between vector-based images and bitmaps; identify when and why Illustrator should be used for a particular project and prepare files and and export high-resolution graphics for use in print, web applications, videos and animations. for print or web use. Through demonstrations and practice, apply newly learned techniques and approaches to a comprehensive project. The class also covers different techniques for working with text and set up workflows for animating your files in Adobe After Effects. / Each student will have access to Adobe Creative Cloud software throughout the class.

Open to students ages 18 and above. Review complete policies, including class cancellation policies, before completing your registration.

Course meeting details

Course will be synchronous, meaning students will meet weekly at the same time via Google Meet. Class meetings will include lecture, demonstrations, discussions, exercises, critiques, and time to ask questions and share resources. This class will meet for 90 minutes then have a break, followed by 90 minutes of work time and the instructor’s office hours. Office hours are an opportunity for students to ask questions and receive feedback and guidance.

Prerequisites

Previous experience with Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator are helpful, but not required.

Supplies
Pen or pencil, notebook or sketchbook.

Software
Adobe Creative Cloud (provided by MCAD).

Hardware
A computer capable of running Adobe Creative Cloud with a camera and microphone, and internet access.

Class resources
This class uses Adobe Creative Cloud and Canvas, MCAD’s learning management system. Please see the link for more information.
