Introduction to Mixed Media: Flora and Fauna Illustration (online)

Explore the art and science of natural history through drawing, painting and mixed media.

Examine the fascinating stories behind centuries of collecting and documenting the natural world, from Ancient Greece to the Enlightenment, with a special focus on the arts and sciences of botany and natural specimens through a series of slide presentations. Students are guided through a series of demonstrations, exercises and projects to create a series of illustrations. Demonstrations throughout the course improve observational drawing skills, explore color mixing and lead to learning how to use different media, such as acrylic inks, colored pencils, graphite pencils, and ink. Class time is dedicated to slide presentations, demonstrations in mixed media, and time for Q&A. Office hours and individual feedback are available for one hour each week before class.

Open to students ages 18 and above. Review complete policies, including class cancellation policies, before completing your registration.
