Painting is a tool for experimentation, expressionism and exploration in art by letting the processes guide the fun and creativity. In this class explore painting techniques, color theory, shapes and textures, while pushing the boundaries through discovery and questioning. Ages 6–9 Learn about past and current painters such as Romare Bearden, Alma Thomas, Faith Ringgold and what inspired these painters. Create colorful pieces in response to music, nature, children’s books and a field trip to the Minneapolis Institute of Art. At the end of the week, families and friends are invited to view the students’ colorful pieces in a group exhibition. Open to students ages 6-9.
