Painting for Illustrators: Water-Based Media (in person)

Explore some of the more difficult aspects of painting with water-based media and learn skills and techniques used when applying them to illustration.

Water-based media is heavily used in contemporary illustration and design. Watercolor, ink, gouache, and acrylic can be challenging to those new to the media. Each of these media has its distinct characteristics but also shares some similarities. In this course, work through some of the more difficult aspects of painting with water-based media and learn skills and techniques used when applying them to illustration. Start with pencil and ink washes to understand value and structure, progress into full color painting with acrylic and gouache and learn how to combine media for the best effect. Each week includes demonstrations, illustration assignments and guided work time. Sketching and ideation are also expected each week as part of developing concepts and compositions for assignments.
