This course is one of three 5-week modules that comprise the Teaching Art and Design Online Course Series Certificate. This course introduces students to the essentials of online course design through reading, writing, discussion, and designing a micro-course of the student's choosing. Create learning objectives and alignment maps while discussing accessibility, interactivity, universal design for learning, faculty presence, communication tactics, and discussion boards. Students design one week of an online course with a topic of their choosing. Open to students ages 18 and above. Class meeting details This course has a weekly synchronous meeting using Google Meet on Tuesday from 7:00–9:00 p.m. CST. The course is project-based, with 2 to 3 deadlines per week. Course activities may include lectures, discussions, exercises, time to ask questions and share resources, and critiques. Prerequisites This course is designed for masters students, museum educators, MCAD teaching minors, and others who have some experience and a desire to teach art and design online. Required materials Hardware A computer, tablet, or smartphone with internet access, a camera, and a microphone for class meetings and to capture and upload work.
