Bower Bird / Light Grey Art Lab

Two of our second-year students were selected to be a part of BOWER BIRD, a collaborative postcard art exhibition, at Light Grey Art Lab in Minneapolis. Illustrator, Niky Motekallem, and comic artist, John Bivens were two of the 90 participating artists that created a limited-edition run of postcards using their collections and object obsessions as inspiration.

When doing the call for submissions, Light Grey Art Lab said, "Our personal collections are made up of hand-me-downs, ticket stubs from a first date, found objects, lucky dice, card decks, jewelry, figurines, and baseball cards. The collections may not have monetary value, but they create a rich history of our past life. They are telling of our interests, obsessions, cultural backgrounds, aesthetic inclinations, and how we consume and appreciate objects. In Light Grey Art Lab’s newest Exhibition, BOWER BIRD, we celebrate these beautiful, diverse, strange, and obscure collections. We celebrate the act of curating, organizing, and preserving through 90 artists originals. During the month of December, the gallery will be transformed into a display of personal collections - a modern cabinet of curiosities."
