Camilo Aguirre / Exhibitions in Cali, Minneapolis and Algeria

This semester, our MFA Fullbright candidate Camilo Aguirre has been up to many things. His work was recently exhibited in Casa Candelario Obeso Museum, in Cali, Colombia. The exhibition was titled Caligrafica Portfolio, a concept developed by Aguirre and was accompanied by work from other Minneapolis based printmakers as well. The exhibition displayed a range of printmaking techniques.

At the same exhibition, a print fair displayed Aguirre's Distant Letters project. Distant Letters is a collaborative project between Aguirre and Andi Bartolomendi where various screen printed posters by artists from Minneapolis, Weimar and Cali were displayed in three cities simultaneously. This show included other MCAD students as well and ran from September 27 until October 21st at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design Library.

According to the curators Aguirre and Bartolomendi, "Connections is a part of Distant Letters in which different artists based in Weimar, Minneapolis, and Cali submitted posters thinking on the idea of 'connections' and how one can patch imagery from different cultures together. Their proposals were displayed and mixed by us and Cesar Garcia from Colombia, and were reproduced through screen printing and digital formats." Other participating artists in Distant Letters included:

Jiahao Chen, Yujie Cao, Patrick Sexton, Maria Jose Castillo, Reyn Boyd, Georgia Peaches, Adam Giordano, Alice Gompels, Andreas Bartolomendi, Corina Lobinger, Doi de Luise, Frankie Brown, Josephine Latzlau, Yael Omer, Alejandro Sepulveda, Ana Rosero, Cesar Garcia, Dayana Camacho, Maria Tafur, Nataly Rengifo, Camilo Aguirre, Lorena Tenorio.

Besides these two projects, Aguirre's work was recently a part of the exhibition titled Panorama of the new Latin American Comic, in the 12th edition of the International Festival of Comic Books of Algeria. The exhibition displayed work by artists from Latin America, including Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela.

Way to go Camilo! Here's wishing you our very best in your upcoming endeavours.
