Cole Seidl is a filmmaker who is endlessly fascinated with contradictions. Particularly the contradictions that can be found barely hidden behind the facade of normal human life. His films explore the failings of interpersonal communication, nostalgia, the often surreal revelations experienced during international travel, and the nature of filmmaking itself. Seidl's films revel in the contradictions of these subjects, and bask in the unique tensions created by contradictory aesthetics, themes, and hypocritical human behaviors. This is all achieved from the foundational contradiction that cinema is, at its core, a series of misrepresentations and outright lies that are supposed to tell us something truthful. Be sure to join us on Friday, May 12th from 6-9pm at the MFA Graduate Studios to enjoy Cole's thesis work, along with the other 2017 graduates!
