Erin Sandsmark / I Am

This March, first year MFA candidate Erin Sandsmark participated in a group show at Altered Esthetics Gallery, which was part of the Guerilla Girls Twin Cities Takeover. Sandsmark's work is made up of large-scale acrylic paintings that are centered on her figure, and how the body she has fits into the world. She has made the choice to put her naked body on display, liberating herself from common notions of beauty and size. The show was a self-portrait exhibition.

From the AE website: "From January to March 2016 the Takeover included over thirty arts and cultural organizations in Minneapolis/St. Paul and surrounding cities. From small non-profit art centers to major cultural institutions in the region, these partners highlighted gender and racial inequalities, taking on stereotypes and hypocrisies, and promoted artistic expression by the often overlooked and underrepresented."
