The MFA Program is proud to present, “Glitch is the Soul in the Machine,” an international traveling exhibition showcasing emergent forms of new media art that playfully reveal the way digital technologies influence our experience of everyday life. The exhibition runs September 20 - October 1, 2021 on the third floor of the MCAD main building, and is free and open to the public (subject to change). There will be a reception on Thursday, September 23, 5:30-7:30pm. Masks are required at all times on the MCAD campus, and visitors must check in at the campus safety desk at the first floor lobby. For more information about this exhibition, please contact Ellen Mueller at emueller@mcad.edu. This exhibition was curated by Mark Amerika, who suggests in his “Glitch Ontology” manifesto-performance, if “Glitch is the soul in the machine,” then how do works of contemporary art reveal what is broken, dysfunctional, hacked and cracked in our information-saturated culture? Jurors included Dena Eber (Digital Arts, Bowling Green State University), Heejoo Kim (Digital Media and Design, University of Connecticut), Adriana Knouf (College of Arts, Media and Design, Northeastern University), Talan Memmott (Creative Digital Media, Winona State University), Ellen Mueller (Director, MFA Program, Minneapolis College of Art and Design), Élika Ortega (Spanish and Portuguese, University of Colorado, Boulder).
