Hallie Bahn / Free First Saturday at Walker Art Center

On the first Saturday of each month, Walker Art Center in Minneapolis hosts Free First Saturdays. The even features free gallery admission, performances, games, art-making, and other monthly themed events from 10am to 3pm. This March the theme was Kids' Film Festival. Families that attended the event could enjoy short films, children’s classics, and a preview screening of The Big Bad Fox and Other Tales, a beautiful, hand-drawn animated feature about the heartwarming antics of animal misfits.

1st year MCAD MFA animation student Hallie Bahn stepped into the role of teaching artist to share the joy of stop-motion animation with over 800 participants. Bahn is an interdisciplinary artist working in stop-motion animation. Through her narratives and handcrafted sets, Bahn’s practice explores themes of time, memory, and self-preservation.

Bahn's workshop invited participants to design their own paper puppet. Puppet makers could then head over to the puppet stage and introduce their new characters to the world.
