On Friday, June 8th, the MCAD Gallery hosted the opening reception for Foodways, curated by Director of Gallery and Exhibition Programs Kerry Morgan and MFA alum Zoe Cinel '18. Foodways looks at the ways in which "contemporary Minnesota-based artists use the subject of food to reveal patterns of consumption, processes of acculturation, and the power of memory." Contributing artists included current MFA student Hallie Bahn '19, MFA alum Julie Benda '16, Kayla Campbell '16, Sieng Lee '14, Alanna Stapleton '18, Joel Terry '17 and former MFA Mentor Luis Fitch. The reception was catered by the Sioux Chef and will be followed up by a Community Day on Saturday, July 21 featuring hands-on art-making activities, tea, and honey tastings, and an MCAD Bake-On Contest juried by Amy Thielen, author of Give a Girl a Knife and The New Midwestern Table. Foodways will be on view from June 8th to August 12th. Photography by Grace Olson and Tom Bierlein.
