The Other is the Mirror of the Self / Gallery 148

Last week, a collective of MFA students and alum hosted an opening reception in Gallery 148 on MCAD's main campus for their new exhibition, The Other is the Mirror of the Self.

Curated by 2nd year MFA student Zoe Cinel, the show featured "artists who, after removing themselves from the comfort of their native country, culture and language, happen to live and work in Minneapolis. As immigrants they all face, on a daily basis, issues of miscommunication, mediation between cultures and performance of identities."

Along with Cinel, work by current MFA students Frankie Castillo, Shun Jie Yong, Yuta Uchida, and MFA alum Peng Wu, was featured in the exhibition. "The aim of the show is to empower a multicultural community of unique, hybrid perspectives and give it a platform to open the dialogue with a larger public, connect with more stories and possibly help others navigate being the ‘other’."

Stop by Gallery 148 before March 30 to see the show!
