This fall, alums Peng Wu '13 and Jammo Xu '13 were recipients of the Series XIV of the MCBA/Jerome Foundation Book Arts Fellowship. From the Jerome Foundation, "Since 1985, the Jerome Foundation has helped artists push the boundaries of contemporary book arts by supporting the creation of new work. Book arts projects funded by the eleven previous series range from exquisitely crafted fine press volumes and sculptural books to documented performances and one-of-a-kind installations that “break the bindings” and redefine conventional notions of book form and content." Fellowship recipients received project funding, studio and equipment use, artistic support from MCBA staff and artists, as well as a one-year MCBA membership. The recipients had one year to complete their proposed work, which was exhibited at MCBA this fall. For their fellowship project, Peng Wu and Jammo Xu collaborated "on a project that memorializes refugee deaths in the European region since 1993. Peng Wu is a sculptor and papermaker working in social practice and public art. Originally from China, he has been based in Minneapolis since 2011. Peng is a collaborating artist with the One World Many Papers project and has had two Northern Spark projects. Minneapolis-based Jammo Xu is a visual storyteller who works with installation and public art." Photography by Yi Wan.
