3600 Cuts, a collaborative, interdisciplinary performance by MFA mentor Piotr Szyhalski and Pramila Vasudevan of Aniccha Arts, was performed this June at The Southern Theater. 2nd year MFA filmmaker Zoe Cinel ’18 also participated in 3600 Cuts, contributing her skills as a performer and working as the videographer for the performance project. The performance piece revolved around the endless quest for higher resolution, examining how the technological obsession of achieving finer grain and more detail can be both illuminating and destructive and how this phenomenon connects to the parallel quest for human ecology. "Meticulously moving through one hour of performance by cutting it up into 3600 seconds, this project (de)constructs an intimate 'high resolution' portrait-critique of this fleeting moment in deep time." 3600 Cuts was composed of dance, sound, and multimedia projections, asking the question: “how can human being begin to fathom the vast impact of climate change in tandem with the immediate minutia of our daily lives?” 3600 Cuts was also performed as part of the art-filled evening, Northern Spark, including three 60-minute performances and a longer free-form improvisation.
