Public Art Practices Panel Discussion / Professional Development Workshop

On November 8, the MCAD MFA program held its second in a new series of professional development workshops. In collaboration with Silverwood Park, the program hosted a panel discussion on public art practices. Speakers included the artistic team from the recent project, Carry On Homes, Peng Wu '13, Shun Jie Yong '18, Preston Drum '16, Zoe Cinel '18, and Aki Shibata, artist and Silverwood Park Programming Director Alyssa Baguss, and artist Jonathan Herrera Soto BFA '17 who joined remotely from an artist residency in Italy. Ellen Mueller, director of the MCAD MFA Program, moderated the discussion.

Each artist spoke about their public art practice, how it has developed and what they have learned through their experiences working with municipal governments, organizations, and businesses. At the end of the panel, the audience had the chance to ask questions about topics ranging from funding to how their ideas transformed from inception to completion.

Current students attended the event using an MCAD van to facilitate the field trip. Students were impressed by Silverwood Park's gallery and facilities, and discussions took place for further collaboration in the future.
