This summer, second-year sculptors Samantha Russell and Jesse Lentz gave the MCAD grounds a major upgrade. Together they worked to restore a sculpture garden staple, "Blue Hondo," the work of artist and faculty member Mike Bigger. Lentz and Russell were commissioned by Karen Wirth, Vice President of Academic Affairs, and Don Myhre, 3D Shop Director, to refinish the large, abstract metal figure that has lived in the sculpture garden for a decade. The job included resurfacing, grounding off rust, repriming, and painting the entirety of the massive work. To cap off the restoration project, Blue Hondo was officially moved to its new home in front of the historic Morrison building, which houses the college's Library, Admissions, Continuing and Online Education, and award-winning Art Cellar, to name a few. The improvement is incredible! For more information: Jesse Lentz Samantha Russell Categories All
