This fall, the MCAD MFA program was fortunate to have Amos Paul Kennedy Jr. visit our studios to share his insights one-on-one with a selection of students. Kennedy, a successful computer programmer for a large corporation, left behind his comfortable position to enter the arts at the age of 40. Since then he has devoted himself to printmaking, and currently runs a letterpress print shop out of Detroit. The subject of the 2008 documentary film Proceed and Be Bold, Kennedy was also a Visiting Artist at MCAD's main campus where he delivered a lecture for the community at large. From Proceed and Be Bold: "At 40 years of age, Amos Paul Kennedy Jr. abandoned the traditional American Dream to follow his own. Unsatisfied with his comfortable, middle-class life, Amos traded in his computer for a printing press and his white collar for a pair of overalls. Armed with life, liberty, peanuts, and a meager yearly income of $7,000, Amos cranked out a new, mutinous declaration of independence." Thank you, Amos!
