The MCAD MFA program has a long tradition of visiting artists, both as classroom lecturers, studio visitors, and participants in formal critiques. This spring, we have begun to take the possibilities even further, as illustrator Matt Rota skyped in to a group of our students to participate in a video lecture and long-distance critique. The event was a great success, as Rota shared his work and wisdom with us all the way from his home in Brooklyn NYC. Jacob Yeates '17, Sishir BOMMAKANTI '18, and Meija Xu '18 offered their illustrations up for critique. From his bio, "Matt Rota is an illustrator living and working in Brooklyn New York, and is an instructor at the School of Visual Arts and the Maryland Institute College of Art. His clients include The New York Times, The New Yorker, The LA Times, The New Republic, VH1, Fast Company, McSweeny's, Foreign Policy Magazine, Smithsonian Magazine, The Washington Post, The Boston Globe, Chronicle Books, Medium, Pro Publica, The Center For Investigative Research, Columbia Journalism Review, GQ Italy, Vice, and more."
