This September, MCAD alum Patrick Miller '02 stopped by the MFA building for a couple of studio visits with current students. Patrick is one half of the FAILE, a Brooklyn-based artistic collaboration with artist Patrick McNeil. Known for their multimedia practice and their explorations of appropriation and collage with painting and printmaking at the center of their approach, "FAILE's work is constructed from found visual imagery, and blurs the line between 'high' and 'low' culture." Their recent works and exhibitions have demonstrated "an emphasis on audience participation, a critique of consumerism, and the incorporation of religious media, architecture, and site-specific/archival research." As part of the celebration of the completion of MCAD's NEXT/NOW capital campaign that raised nearly $24M for scholarships, facilities, and academic program support, Patrick and FAILE was one of four alumni invited to create limited-time art installations on MCAD's main campus. The two-story commemorative mural on the south side of MCAD’s main building by FAILE "is the first time this internationally recognized mural team has presented their work in Minnesota. Mural funding was provided in part by Karin Phillips ’95." Check out the mural before it's gone! Interdisciplinary artist Mike Moen '18, illustrator Sishir Bommakanti '18, and painter Reza Nejati-Namin '18 all welcomed Patrick into their studios for discussions about their work and current practices. Thanks so much for stopping by, Patrick! Photos by Libby Wiswall and Yi Wan. Patrick Miller FAILE Mike Moen Sishir Bommakanti Reza Nejati-Namin Next/Now Celebration Categories All Visiting Artists
