Friday, January 12, 2024 All sessions are in Auditorium 140 in the MCAD main building unless noted. 9:00 a.m. Orientation Check-in: Main Gallery Register for orientation and enjoy muffins, coffee, and juice compliments of Student Affairs. 9:30 a.m. Welcome We kick-start with a warm welcome by President Sanjit Sethi, and Assistant Director of Student Activities Brett Smith provides an overview of the schedule for the day. 9:45 a.m. Getting started at MCAD Meet some of the people who will be helping you succeed at MCAD: Jen Zuccola, Vice President of Student Affairs; Nate Lutz, Director of Housing; Dann Servaty, Assistant Director of Financial Aid; Mark Sherman, Help Desk Director; Miguel Granger, Director of Student Accounts. 10:30 Thriving at MCAD Meet the staff dedicated to helping you engage, adapt, and thrive at MCAD. Brett Smith, Assistant Director for Student Activities, will discuss clubs and social events on campus. In this session, you will also become familiar with tutoring, accommodations, and counseling on campus. Beth Stockinger, Director of Student Counseling and Wellness, and Timothy Gardner, Director of the Learning Center, will cover resources and scheduling appointments for assistance. Getting Grounded at MCAD A panel of students offers a glimpse of life at college with details from Assistant Director of Student Activities Brett Smith, Director of Student Counseling and Wellness Beth Stockinger, Director of the Learning Center Timothy Gardener. From on-campus events to the things you need to know about the city, there is a lot to learn and explore here. Get the low-down on how to thrive from current students. Questions are encouraged! 12:00 p.m. Lunch: MCAD College Center and Cafe Compliments of Student Affairs. Take a moment to make sure you have your Student ID created (at Campus Safety) 1:00 p.m. Responsibility, Personal Safety, and Policies Become familiar with the school policies and plans that all students need to know. Student Affairs and Public Safety representatives will discuss emergency plans, Title IX, and other important topics. 2:00 p.m. Academics, Advising, and Registration In this session, meet the staff who will help keep you on track at MCAD: Robert Ransick, Vice President of Academic Affairs; River Gordon, Registrar; Tannah Frawley, Academic Advising Coordinator; and Melissa Rands; interim Director of Foundation Studies. You will have advising and registration each semester, this is where you find out more! 3:00 p.m. Mentor Tour & Laptop Pick-up The Peer Mentor Program provides first-semester MCAD students with a mentor and a small cohort of fellow first-semester students to aid in the transition to college and give support in the areas of time management, study skills, technology, financial literacy, and more. They will also show you where to find your laptop!
